I don’t know about you, but I am 100% ready for summer to start.

Memorial Day is upon us… can you believe it?

The unofficial start to summer.

I’m smiling just thinking about it.

For the past twenty-plus years, I’ve been spending Memorial Day weekend on the eastern end of Long Island, otherwise known as the Hamptons.

The weather is always iffy in late May… so, what is one to do on a cloudy day?

Shop.

If you’re familiar with the Hamptons shopping scene, you know that stores tend to come and go… such is the nature of seasonal locales.

You may also know that East Hampton is looking more and more like Madison Avenue… with stores like Prada, Chanel, and Gucci on offer.

There’s a running debate about whether that’s good or bad for the East End.

Let me just say it’s becoming a shopper’s paradise.

So, if you’re planning a visit to the Hamptons this summer, here’s what you need to know about where to go if you want to shop.

Here are…

  • LOUIS VUITTON, 1 Main Street, East Hampton:  Yes, the rumors are true. Louis Vuitton is taking up shop in the old Tahari building on the corner of Main Street and Newtown Lane. In March, Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH and the richest man in the world, bought the building for a cool $22 million, the biggest commercial sale on the East End so far this year.

  • 2. ISABEL MARANT, 66 Newtown Lane, East Hampton:  The cool girl French brand Isabel Marant is coming to the Hamptons! The sign is already up on Newtown Lane and my eagle-eyed friends who are watching construction tell me the store is slated for a mid-June opening.

    3. CULT GAIA, 66 Newtown Lane, East Hampton:  Word on the street is the ink is barely dry on a lease for a Cult Gaia boutique in the old Sotheby’s space next to Kirna Zabête, also on Newtown Lane. Supposedly, Staud was close to signing until Cult Gaia swooped in. Cult Gaia makes colorful summer dresses and accessories – swimwear, too – a welcome addition to the Hamptons.

    4. DEREK LAM 10 CROSBY, 20 Newtown Lane, East Hampton:  Down the street, Derek Lam 10 Crosby is already open, situated between Chanel and Henry Lehr. Another option for easy-to-wear, well-priced clothing.

    5. DIPTYQUE, 11 Newtown Lane, East Hampton:  Calling all hostess gift shoppers. Luxury home fragrance brand Diptyque is also coming to East Hampton this summer, conveniently located next door to the Aerin boutique. Not, yet, open… stay tuned.

    6. ZEGNA, 50 Newtown Lane, East Hampton:  For all of you male shoppers out there, there’s finally an alternative to Brunello Cucinelli for luxury men’s clothing. Zegna is already open for business and is sure to be popular among the gents.

    7. AVIATOR NATION, 87 Main Street, East Hampton:  You know those ‘70s-inspired hoodies and sweatpants with the rainbow stripes? That’s Aviator Nation and they’re moving into the old Intermix space on Main Street in East Hampton. I’m really excited about this one. Opens Friday, May 26th.

    8. CURIO, 2183 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton:  Further west, Bridgehampton is getting a boost with a Curio pop up at Project Hamptons on Montauk Highway, next to Citerella. The retail concept store – the original is in the Faena District in Miami – features brands like Taller Marmo, Lug Von Siga, and Gül Hürgel. There will be fitness classes there, too. Workout then shop… what a concept!
